The Marshall™ 1960B is the speaker cabinet that defined the sound of rock guitar. "1960" is Marshall's model number for the iconic 4×12 cabinet, and the "B" stands for Bottom — the straight version that sits on the floor, with the slant "A" riding on top to form the classic Marshall stack.
Since the 1960s this cabinet has powered the rigs of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Slash, Angus Young, and countless others. When you picture a wall of Marshalls behind a band, you're picturing 1960Bs.
This particular cabinet is a 1974 vintage carrying the rare Large Check grill cloth — the bigger, bolder checker pattern — and the original white tolex covering, a sought-after collector spec from the era.
Inside are four Celestion™ "ROLA" G12M25 Greenback speakers. The "Greenback" nickname comes from the green magnet cover on the rear; "ROLA" denotes Celestion's 1970s production period, the most prized window for these drivers thanks to their aggressive midrange grit and bright top end. An aggressive Greenback voicing routed through a 1974 large-check 1960B in white tolex is the foundational sound of British rock guitar — and from Hendrix through Angus Young, that wall-of-Marshalls tone is called back here from the era of its making.
