The 212 BOGN V30 captures a BOGNER™ 2×12 closed-back cabinet. For this capture the cab was stood on end, with the two drivers one above the other — the placement that spreads the cabinet's own output evenly to left and right. Its cone area is exactly half that of the 4×12 straight cab in the same series (412 BOGN-B). There is less weight underneath and it does not reach as low as a 4×12, but in exchange the amp itself comes through more directly. The low end that remains stays tight instead of swelling, so it does not fight the bass and kick, and there is less to carve out in the mix.
It is loaded with two Celestion™ Vintage 30s — 16 Ω examples (T3904A) built in 2013. Introduced in 1986 for the Marshall Studio 15 combo, the Vintage 30 was designed to recreate the character of the 1960s alnico speakers (like the Celestion Blue) with a more manageable ceramic magnet, balancing a chewy upper-mid with a tight low end for a dense, focused tone. Wired in parallel, the pair presents 8 Ω to the amp, with 60 W of handling per driver.
The capture is routed through an API™ 512c microphone preamplifier, a direct descendant of the original 2510/2520 discrete op-amp lineage. The 512c brings the API character built through decades of console work: a deep, controlled low-end, an extremely low noise floor, and a punchy midrange that projects forward. The Neve VR version of the same cabinet sits alongside it as the warmer, more vintage-leaning alternative.
