The Mesa Boogie™ 2×12 Rectifier is the smaller-format closed-back cabinet from the Rectifier line — the cabinet Mesa built to pair with the Dual and Triple Rectifier amplifiers that defined American high-gain tone from the early 1990s onward.
The closed-back 2×12 format delivers the same tight, focused low-end response as the larger 4×12 Rectifier cabinet but in a more compact footprint, useful for studio environments and smaller stages where the 4×12 is impractical.
This particular cabinet is the long-serving Rectifier of Tsuyoshi Kon — one of Japan's most respected first-call session guitarists, with over four decades of work across the country's top studio and live productions. The cabinet has been modified from its factory spec, the central change being the speaker swap: a pair of JBL™ K120 12-inch drivers in place of the stock V30s.
The K120 is a vintage American ceramic driver prized for its high power-handling, fast transient response, and aggressive upper-midrange presence — equally regarded across guitar and bass applications, and now difficult to source in matched pairs.
A capture made for high-gain rhythm work and detailed lead tones — the JBL drivers' clarity and the closed-back cabinet's tight low end giving strong note separation that holds up under heavy distortion, living on as the Tsuyoshi Kon-spec character of this Mesa Rectifier 2×12.
