The Marshall™ 1960A is the slant-front variant of Marshall's legendary 4×12 cabinet — the angled-baffle "A" version, designed to sit on top of a 1960B straight cabinet to form the classic Marshall stack. The "JCM800 LEAD SERIES" designation marks the 1980s production era of the cabinet line.
This particular cabinet runs a non-standard speaker configuration. Inside, ALTEC LANSING™ 417-8C 12-inch drivers replace the Celestion speakers the platform was originally specified to carry. The 417-8C is a vintage American guitar speaker drawn from ALTEC Lansing's professional driver line — a configuration rarely encountered inside a Marshall cabinet.
The tonal result sits at a deliberate distance from the standard JCM800 + Celestion pairing. The ALTEC drivers contribute a tighter, more focused midrange and a different upper-mid voicing than the V30 or Greenback drivers normally specified for the platform. The familiar enclosure remains; the voice does not.
A specialised capture documenting an unusual but historically meaningful speaker swap. Across the same JCM800 silhouette on which the British Marshall canon was built, the American driver carries the cabinet's voice into a position clearly of its own.
